Recap of the AOMS GOLF SPECTACULAR
The Thirteenth Annual Angel Golf Spectacular was a huge success. Over 150 golfers converged on the golf course to make a positive difference to those living with or affected by cancer.
Remarkably, our Spectacular” surpassed our goal (monies raised to be announced following final count) to benefit the programming of Angel On My Shoulder and the causes we champion.
The beautiful St. Germain Golf Course, the largest and fastest 18-hole course in the Northwood’s of Wisconsin with its bent grass greens and forest setting, was engulfed with lovely sunshine and blue skies making it a perfect “Angel” day on the course. A Cocktail & Hors d’oeuvre Reception and an Awards Ceremony, Dinner and Silent Auction followed. The evening culminated with Angel’s signature Live Auction.
It was a “triple” pleasure to welcome three former Packer greats, Gilbert Brown, William Henderson and Craig Newsome, as our very special celebrity guests.
The golfers were given a chance to have an autographed team picture taken at the course with these football heros. Gilbert participated with the teams on one of the holes and through the bidding/fund-raising process, William and Craig spent the day on the course as “angel” golfers.
This year our Angel Golf Spectacular Ice Breaker, “Party With The Pack”, was held at the Black Bear Lodge in St. Germain the night preceding our golf event. Participants were afforded the opportunity to mingle and “break bread” with Gilbert Brown, William Henderson and Craig Newsome. Pictures and other sports memorabalia were also on site to have personally signed by our Packer greats. A buffet-style dinner and an exclusive silent auction highlight this “kick-off” event.
As always, we gratefully salute our chief “angel chef”, Ron Rose of LeRoy Meats of Horicon for providing the steaks+ and for his above and beyond service. With great appreciation, we acknowledge Diane Misina, owner of the Black Bear Lodge, along with her amazing staff for graciously providing us with the perfect setting for this celebrity event.
And yet another Packer opportunity “came into play” for the golfers. The following morning a chance for the foursomes (or individual golfer) to bid on “Breakfast With A Packer” at the award winning Wolf Pack Café in St. Germain was offered. These delicious complimentary breakfasts for our Packer celebrities and the teams submitting the highest bid were once again graciously and generously provided by owners, Joe and Kathy Lass.
There were many outstanding offerings to enhance the golf experience including: a putting contest along with other interesting on-course “incentives” for our golfers at designated golf holes. There were also chances to take away $10,000 in cash; a one week all expense paid trip to the FIJI Islands; a 2009 Red Corvette and an all expense paid trip to The Palms in Las Vegas at their Fantasy Suite.

A very warm welcome was given to our “Spectacular” auctioneer, Jim Miller. Jim specializes in auction fundraising for 501(c)(3)non-profit organizations. During his over 10 years as an “auction entertainer” he has worked with organizations of all sizes, helping raise millions of dollars while at the same time adding humor and fun to the setting. He is certainly the “best of the best”!!!!
The silent auction tables abounded with many gift baskets and other enticing items. The selection included: A Backyard BBQ Package; Fishing Tackle Box w/supplies; Milwaukee Bucks Tickets; Eagle River Roasters/AOMS Coffees/Teas; Portrait Setting;
Genuine Antle Chandelier; End Table & Furniture Certificate; Wall Mirror; Elk Painting (limited edition); autographed GB Packer football, Premium Golf at the Wilderness Resort in Wisconsin Dells and the list goes on . . .
Fascinating raffles awaited the bidders which included the “Treasure Chest” (containing $1,000 in coins), the Rose Raffle, a precious jewelry piece; and a 52 Card Raffle (prize: a 52 Samsung 1080p LCD TV w/a 16 BG Playstation 3 and movies).
We were extremely honored to name Dick Lemke, a phenomenal veteran Angel Polar Bear “Plunger” and one of the top fundraisers at that event, as our Angel On My Shoulder 2009 Honoree. This amazing man of genuine caring was recognized for his unending support of our work along with his dedicated efforts and commitment to making things better and brighter for those in the cancer-affected community.
Great excitement filled the room created by our signature “angel” live auction. The auction bid list contained an intriguing array of “priceless” items: Milwaukee Brewers Private Suite; Wild Eagle Lodge Surprise Package; an Overnight Spa Escape at the beautiful Sundara Spa in the Wisconsin Dells; Summit Lake Game Farm Pheasant Hunt Package, and an Ultimate Hawaiian Vacation (7 nights accommodations at the Lawai Beach Resort).
Serve You Custom Prescription Management was the highest bidder for “Vincent Bunny”, graciously donating him back to raise more monies for next year’s live auction. A big THANK YOU to Serve You for this generous gesture of giving.
The four 2009 Angel $1500 Scholarship Winners were proudly introduced during our evening program. Through the generous support of those attending our 2008 Golf Auction, we were able to increase the number of scholarships offered. Four $1500 scholarships and nineteen $1000 scholarships were awarded based on qualifications and need. Approximately four hundred applications were received from outstanding high school seniors throughout the State.
A tremendous round of applause goes out to each and every one of you (Sponsors, Golfers, Participants, Volunteers, Coordinators, Donators and the list goes on) for your unending support, incredible commitment and hard work in making the Angel Golf Spectacular the indescribable success it has become.
