NORTHWOODS ORIGINAL POLAR BEAR PLUNGE
Through the dedication, commitment and leadership of founders and organizers, Mike Wolf, acclaimed radio personality of WRJO Radio, George and Lois Ruediger, along with Kaye and Rob Manthie, owners of Fibber’s Bar and Restaurant in St. Germain, WI the NORTHWOODS ORIGINAL POLAR BEAR PLUNGE became a reality in January of 2000.
The NORTHWOODS ORIGINAL POLAR BEAR PLUNGE has grown and evolved each year. Held at Fibber’s Bar and Restaurant, there is a heated outdoor tent and shuttle busses run from St. Germain Community Center and Whitetail Inn. Pier of d’North provides an access ramp and elevated platform to ensure the safety of the plungers (and bigger splashes). There are heated camper trailers for changing stations and a hot tub to remove the chill.
Radio personalities Mike Wolf and Amy Linnett, along with Eric Schoeneck and Dick Lemke host a 30-hour Pledge-a-thon prior to the plunge on WRJO Radio. This “red-eye” event has raised awareness of our programs as well as an incredible amount in pledges.
The Plunge takes place at high noon on Big St. German Lake in St. Germain, WI in January and has raised over $250,000 for Angel On My Shoulder. The money raised benefits our camps: Camp Angel, Camp Teen Angel and Angel Adventures, along with support for our other programs.
